Nevada Wilderness Alcohol And Drug Rehab Centers

For people with a history of drug and alcohol abuse, there may be preconceived ideas of what treatment will be like. The truth is there are many different types of rehab facilities, each of which offers varying programs and therapies. Some feature holistic therapies, such as art and music therapy. Others offer intensive all-day counseling in a confined facility shut off from the rest of society. While all are effective, some people enrolling in treatment desire something more from their experience.

With wilderness drug rehab, program participants experience all of the benefits of addiction and substance abuse counseling while enjoying the natural therapy of being in the great outdoors. Instead of feeling shut-off from the rest of the world, many feel as though they have been given new freedom to experience the beauty of nature and the natural serenity it provides. In Nevada, wilderness drug rehab programs provide a unique alternative to traditional recovery programs, with opportunities to hike, camp, view wildlife, and even do a little horseback riding.

Hiking

There are many hiking opportunities perfect for anyone in recovery in Nevada, including the Ash Springs Wildlife Area near Alamo. Located in southern Nevada, Ash Springs is a desert oasis with spring-fed mineral pools that visitors can wade into. There is much to explore in the area, including trails that circle nearby Nesbitt Lake and French Lake. Others may enjoy the unique hiking experiences at the Baker Archaeological Site in Great Basin National Park. First excavated in the early 1990s, this site holds the remains of an ancient Indian village believed to be occupied in the 13th century.

Camping

Angel Lake offers beautiful camping opportunities in northeastern Nevada that allow for at-peace recovery from addiction. At an 8,400-foot elevation, this campsite features many activities, including canoeing, fishing, and hiking. It is surrounded by glacial cirques that rise another 1,600 feet. Both single and double campsites are available, with lake views, on-site grills, drinking water, vault toilets, and campfire rings. Firewood is available for purchase onsite.

Further south at Bird Creek Recreation Area, four-day use campsites are available, with group accommodations for up to 100 people. Drinking water and vault toilets are provided onsite, as well as tables, grills, and campfire rings. Several trails wind through the area, with opportunities for hiking, snowshoeing, and berry picking.

Wildlife Viewing

The aforementioned Ash Springs Wildlife Area is a popular spot for wildlife viewing. There are several wildlife refuges in the area, including Pahranagat, where those seeking relaxation during treatment can view eagles, hundreds of bird species, heron, mallard ducks, jackrabbits, and tortoises. Likewise, visitors to Angel Lake are privy to many wildlife viewing opportunities. The area is known for its bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and deer, as well as many species of predatory birds.

Horseback Riding

Black Rock-High Rock Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area is one of the most popular areas in Nevada for horseback riding, as there are no motorized vehicles of any kind allowed on the refuge. There are plenty of opportunities for solitude while you’re undergoing therapy, with more than 1.2 million acres of public land dedicated to the ‘Black Rock Country’.

Visitors can ride horseback alone, in groups, or with the help of a guide. Another horseback riding area is just 8 miles from South Lake Tahoe at the Bayview Campground. Though the trail is strenuous, there are corrals and horse watering facilities available at the trailhead and two-day camping available for visitors. The trail is steep, but it rewards with beautiful views of Lake Tahoe from Maggie’s Peak.
