Many rehabilitation facilities place importance on patient comfort during recovery as part of the treatment process. This leads to patient rooms and amenities surpassing the expected and providing the comfort and security needed for a successful recovery.

Getting into treatment and approaching a new lifestyle is a step in the right direction after being overcome by addiction. Your life has likely crumbled beyond that which you ever envisioned for yourself, but knowing that recovery is around the corner, you may be able to see that light in the distance. Though the past may be grim, take pleasure in seeing that you have a future and can start life anew.

With the many comforts to come in your fresh, new life, you’ll be curious about your upcoming surroundings in treatment. Your questions may leave you concerned about your impending stint in rehab, but don’t let worries weigh too heavily on your mind. With addiction and mental health climbing in importance in the health industry, you can take heed in knowing that most facilities offer comforts of everyday life and even surpass what you’re commonly used to in terms of lodging amenities.

Industry Changes Lead To Heightened Comforts

The ways in which the health industry has recently changed to accommodate for the reality of negatively impactful mental illness and addiction trends, those undergoing treatment for such categorical conditions will have many styles of rehabilitation to choose from. The differing programs and the many customized features of treatment allow for every individual to seek out the best course of recovery for their own needs.

Along with the vast and varying treatments offered today, many facilities have undergone changes and new rehab centers have emerged that follow the same idea: that treatment is not a one-size-fits-all endeavor. Everyone is different, and now that addiction treatment has changed so much, getting into a comforting atmosphere that will be conducive to recovery is also plausible.

What You May Find In Your Rehab Center

As every center offers different programs and services, atmospheres will differ, sometimes greatly, from facility to facility. Average residential rooms, however, will offer some of the same amenities and boast the same levels of comfort.

A typical room in rehab will commonly be shared by another resident, though you may be able to have your own space or a single room. Many facilities have rooms with private in-room bathrooms, complete with showers. Likely, you’ll also see a wardrobe or closet for hanging clothes, as well as a dresser for storing your personal belongings.

Getting into treatment, you may find that you have a bit more constraint on your schedule and ability to do exactly as you please. Those limits are usually basic and set forth to protect residents and keep the peace of program scheduling as everyone undergoes beneficial therapies and group sessions for the healing process.

Know that your comfort is important to your facility staff. If you’re not feeling well, there is often leeway for you to retire to your room and be comfortable in your own space. Fresh linens, pillows, and blankets are usually provided and made readily available for when you’re in need of further convenience. In most situations, you are also permitted to bring your own linens, towels, and pillows, in order to make your stay much easier.

Common Amenities:

  • Dressers
  • Closets
  • In-room bathrooms with showers
  • Shared kitchen facility
  • Mini fridge sometimes in room
  • DVD player
  • WiFi

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Can I take my pet with me to rehab?

There are many treatment facilities that make sure that you’re given comfort in having your best friend along with you. Taking your pet to rehab is a common option and in some places, you can even have your animal stay with you in your room.

2. Does my rehab allow phone access?

Most rehabs will limit phone access during treatment and will have a phone in a common area with scheduled phone times. While you may not have in-room phones, you will be able to speak with loved ones and have a connection to your visitors when it is your turn to use the phone. Luxury facilities may offer broader access to communication, but phone times will usually be limited there, as well, to keep the atmosphere peaceful and reduce possible negative outcomes of phone conversation.

3. Will I get alone time in my room?

Though you may not be able to have your own room during treatment, there are many points of reflection that allow for individual time for journaling, naps, and other private moments. Check with your facility to ensure you’re given the time you need to remain comfortable during your program. In other cases, you may find yourself having a room all to yourself. This will grant you more alone time to reflect on daily activities and therapy sessions.

4. What kind of beds are offered at rehab?

Rehab centers do their best to make sure you’re feeling comfortable and getting the rest you need while detoxing and falling into a healthy pattern. Facilities will usually offer single-sized twin beds or double beds with soft coverings and extra linens and pillows when requested.

5. Do I have to have a roommate?

Depending on the type of treatment you enter for your rehabilitation, you may end up having a roommate or a shared bunkhouse with several roommates. Having a roommate doesn’t always appeal to everyone, so make sure before you enter treatment that you can request a single room. If you aren’t able to reside alone during your program, know that you’ll still have privacy and times for personal reflection.

6. Is luxury treatment a better option for privacy?

If you’re looking to enter a facility that offers more alone time, chances are, luxury treatment is what you’ll want. Facilities that fall under the luxury category leave patients with more comforting amenities, often allowing for privacy that isn’t had at a traditional center.

7. Will internet access be limited at my facility?

Most rehab centers do limit access to the internet. To ensure that residents aren’t seeking delivery of addictive substances or being coaxed into negative behaviors, facilities will usually only allow for utilization of certain websites. Hours of use may be limited, as well.

8. How can I ensure that I am comfortable during my stay in rehab?

Rehab is not guaranteed to be comfortable at all times during your treatment. You may feel the pressure of coming off of the substance that you’re reliant on and for that reason and others, you’ll need to find comfort in knowing that you’re going to be healthy and in control of yourself when your program ends. You can certainly know that visitations, private time, one-on-one therapy sessions, and outdoor activities can lend to your comfort during this time.

9. Should I bring sheets and pillows to treatment?

Most facilities offer pillows, sheets, blankets, and other comforting necessities for your stay. You may, however, opt to bring all of your own linens, which can enhance your feelings of comfort when you’re away from home.

10. Will I be given a “lights out” time?

Schedules are usually followed strictly during rehab to ensure that everyone can attend group activities and be a part of the overall healing process. Schedules also lend to the new feeling you’ll be given of being in control of your life. For these reasons, there are usually times when your facility will want everyone to get rest. Sharing a room will also mean that going to sleep at a similar time as your roommate will be necessary.
