Teen Alcohol And Drug Rehab Centers In Wyoming

When adolescents find themselves with a substance abuse problem, finding quality treatment quickly is imperative. Youth who struggle with substance abuse often find themselves hurting socially, academically and physically. It is not uncommon for these patients to damage their relationships with their friends and family. They also become less focused on their studies and can even hurt their cognitive abilities with their substance use.

For teenagers in Wyoming, however, substance abuse remains a persistent threat. According to data collected by SAMHSA, between 8.38 and 9.41 percent of the population between the ages of 12 and 17 have used an illicit substance in the past month. Even more concerning is that between 3.03 and 3.25 percent of the people in this age group are in need of substance abuse treatment but are not receiving it. The youth in the state also experience mental illness, as between 2013 and 2014, there were an average of 5,000 major depressive episodes each year for people in this age range.

Parents and loved ones of teenagers should watch for signs of potential substance abuse, such as being withdrawn, bloodshot eyes, sudden weight changes, or lack of personal hygiene, so that they can get the patient the help that is needed as quickly as possible.

Substance abuse treatment for adolescents

There are a variety of different types of treatment available for teenagers. Patients’ guardians will need to first decide whether it is more appropriate to pursue residential or outpatient treatment for their teen’s recovery. With residential treatment, patients will live at the facility and receive the care and support required around the clock. For patients who have a particularly longstanding or serious substance abuse problem, this is often preferable.

For patients who do not have such a long standing problem, and have a good support system at home, an outpatient program often is used. In an outpatient program, the patient returns home each night. Outpatient programs might include hours of therapy and groups during the day or it might be just a nightly meeting. The intensity of the program selected for the patient should be dependent upon the person’s unique needs.
