Crandon is the county seat of Forest County, and is situated near the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, far from any large cities. This rural location is home to many small towns, and not many addiction treatment facilities. There are, however, two alcohol and drug rehab centers that are easily accessible to Crandon residents.
Substance Abuse Problems In Crandon And Forest County
In January 2018, two people were arrested for supplying heroin that lead to a Crandon man’s overdose death. They were found to have cocaine, narcotic pills, and marijuana as well. Several more people from Crandon were arrested in February 2018 for manufacturing and selling cocaine and heroin.
After a traffic stop in Crandon in August 2018, a woman admitted to having 12 grams of heroin, 4 grams of crack cocaine, and 2 grams of marijuana concealed in her body. She and the woman with her were arrested for selling drugs on the Potawatomi reservation.
Sadly, these incidents show that even small towns are not immune to drug trafficking and substance abuse that has become such a problem across the country in recent years.
