Florida’s Vacation Surroundings That Includes Binge Drinking and Drug Abuse
Sunny Florida is home to amusement parks and vacation fun. A large portion of the economy in the state is due to the influx of vacationers that hit the sandy beaches and theme parks over the course of the year for their week or two off from the day to day. For those who call Florida home, the picture may be slightly different. The pay scale in Florida is significantly lower than other portions of the country and the state was hit harder than many in the recent economic downturn because tourism is down considerably. Florida is also a rather large state and a good portion of it is rural.
On the whole, Florida ranks at the national average in underage drinking and binge drinking according to the Office of Adolescent Health. Not only does Florida have a serious alcohol issue but drug addiction is rampant due to the drug trafficking from the ports of Miami. While that certainly doesn’t put the state in the worst situation on the country with regard to addiction abuse, it is still an issue that needs to be addressed for the ongoing health of the state and its citizens.
