Court-ordered treatments occur after an individual goes through the court system. In most cases, it is recommended for offenders who have not repeated crimes multiple times or for young offenders. For example, a court-mandated treatment may occur after a first offense rather than a second or third. Early treatment helps reduce the risk of relapse in the future and lowers the risk of future drug-related crimes.
