Many individuals who are considering going to rehab may be worried about having their own personal space where they can focus on themselves and their recovery. Fortunately, many rehab facilities offer residents the opportunity to have their own rooms in order to begin their journey to sobriety in a comfortable and safe environment.
If you’re in the process of choosing a rehabilitation center for addiction for either yourself or a loved one, chances are you have a lot of questions. Coming to terms with an addiction can be a very overwhelming and at times stressful process. Recognizing that you or your loved one suffers from an addiction is a big step, one of the most important within the process of getting care.
The important thing to understand is that every person and their addiction is different. Each person who fights an addiction has come from a different road of life and brings their own unique concerns, history, and needs to the table. This is something that must be taken into consideration when you are choosing a treatment program. Some people fare better if they are able to have their privacy and own space when they are in a residential treatment facility. You can have your own room during rehab, here we discuss how this is possible and the factors that surround it.
The Importance Of Choosing The Right Program
Not every program is right for every person. Every program is different, from the type of amenities that they offer to the type of therapies that they utilize within their treatment protocol. Every facet of a program is important to consider. Remember, you’re leaving your life behind and when you’re in an inpatient program, the facility will be your life for the duration of your treatment.
If you’re looking at programs, you’re likely more than a bit overwhelmed and a little curious as to how this change will occur and what it will entail. Your room is your personal space. Throughout the day and at the day’s end, it is the place where you will retire to rest, reflect, meditate, and have alone time. This is where you will face the reality of your journey towards sobriety. Rehabilitation can at times be very emotionally and mentally exhausting.
You will encounter a fair share of these feelings within the boundaries of your room. This space can be very important. For that reason, some people desire to have a space that is entirely theirs. Being able to seek and find comfort while you’re within treatment can go a long way towards ensuring that you get optimal results while you’re there. Though all good programs seek to provide their residents with comfort, having your own room can definitely increase the measure of comfort that you have while you’re in treatment.

Creating Your Own Space
A person who struggles with addiction might begin to feel lonely or isolated—or they might feel like no one sees them for who they are anymore—in fact, they might struggle to even see themselves as life changes for the better. Having a private room may seem counterproductive to this, however, having a personal space may lend to reversing these harmful trends and negative emotions.
Healing from a drug or alcohol addiction is a very personal and emotive process. Having a private room can make this transition easier. Not only is it a place that you can recede to find balance and solid ground, but it is something that you can have some measure of control over—it is something to call your own, even if it is only temporarily while you’re in treatment.
During residential drug treatment, you’ll be spending a fair amount of time—anywhere from 30 days or more—within treatment, so having a space that suits your needs can make the ups and downs somewhat easier to bear.
Remember, just because you have your own space, does not mean that you’re excluded from the routines or limits that other residents have to adhere to. Facilities generally insist on a fairly strict schedule, which is not to say that you don’t have personal time. Along with the treatment and therapies that your rehabilitation is built upon, facilities factor in time for personal reflection, rest, and leisure activities.
The reason why facilities maintain a schedule is actually to protect and support their residents so that they might glean the greatest benefit of their time within recovery. Having and adhering to a schedule helps a resident to feel like they have control over something. This is important because control is something that is, in most cases, absent during an addiction.
When a person is overcome by addiction, they often let many to most of their responsibilities and aspects of self-care slip to the wayside. This is why having a schedule is so important, it forces them to develop a routine and implement planning, while also ensuring that they can develop these critical areas of self-care and reestablish what it means to have responsibilities and fulfill them.
How Are Private Rooms Different From Other Rooms?
Every facility has a different atmosphere and offers different services. Typically, in a private rehab center, you will share a room with one other person. This means you might share certain things like the bathroom. Most all programs have general amenities that are offered to help make you the most comfortable that you can be, these may include a dresser, a closet, a desk and desk lamp, and an in-room bathroom and shower. Even in dual residency rooms, some offer TVs, DVD players, and mini fridges. Though a private room can offer these same things, the difference might include a larger bed (a queen or king-sized verses a twin or double), a better-sized closet, or more ample storage space.
Private rooms are more expensive. Though private rooms are typical to luxury programs, they exist in numerous other formats of programs as well. In the former, a room might have more lavish furnishings, decorations, a better view, or better amenities. It might even have more luxurious options, including a private pool or jacuzzi tub and a separate living area.
Privacy is definitely a priority in a luxury rehab—having a private room and living space is one of the top reasons why many people choose a program such as this. If this is one of your primary concerns and you have the financial means to make it happen, a luxury rehab might be the best option for you.
Certain things are fairly consistent regardless if you share a room or not. Even in a luxury rehab or another facility with a private room, if you want to use the phone, you will likely have to use a common phone during specified times. Some facilities also have Wi-Fi. Generally speaking, this is regulated in ways similar to phone usage—you can use it at certain times, for a certain duration of time.
Will Insurance Cover A Private Room?
Insurance coverage is variable depending on who your coverage provider is. Different policies have different stipulations and levels of coverage; some may pay for a portion of your treatment, provided that you pay for the rest. Take the time to read over your policy or call your insurance provider. Some facilities offer financing options, too—so don’t write it off yet if your insurance won’t cover the entirety of your stay.
